Creativity and magic are both beautiful concepts. They add a spark to life difficult to capture in other mediums. Both art and magic are ethereal in their fleeting nature and how neither can truly be captured or frozen in time. Magic connects us to the universe and the world in a similar way creativity connects us together. We are all tied together through fate and the paths we are on, and being creative helps us find each other in different ways.
Astrology has been studied for as long as humans have been watching the sky for navigation, weather patterns for farming, and following the stars at night to predict upcoming events. Similarly, creativity has been an active part of human nature for thousands of years as evidenced by bone flutes and cave paintings made by early humans. Both music and magic are connected together and I find it fascinating the way magic can influence art.
Influencing Music with Magic
When composing new music or improvising on different ideas, I love using astrology or magic as an outline. Themes of different transits or signs engage our brains when creating a new piece or concept. Using Mars in Scorpio focuses the idea on strong, watery motives. As someone who experiences synesthesia, images of cascading waterfalls instantly come to my mind when imagining a musical piece dedicated to Mars in Scorpio. However, the motifs of a Mars in Scorpio piece would vary drastically from something written for Mars in Gemini, Virgo, or even another water sign.
Creating different kinds of art based on magic and astrology may change how it manifests as well. To me, the concepts pulled from Mars in Scorpio look different in music versus if I were painting or drawing. A helpful consideration as well is how we all have unique perspectives and ideas. What one person creates based on a specific transit will be different compared to another person’s creation. Regardless of how our creativity manifests using art and magic, it’s important to remember some key points to this concept.
What Magic Can Do for Creativity
Art invites us to use a broader mindset and embody our emotions to create something unique and authentic. It is difficult to create something without considering our personal touch or desires. Astrology and magic invite us to open our minds in a similar way to access our personal energy to connect with the world and universe. Using astrology and magic as a creative framework pushes the limits of what we can do. It encourages us to change our perspective and embrace unique challenges. It pushes us further to make us stronger.
We all have our own internal magic. Your natal chart is the fingerprint of your life in this universe, and our ancestry includes unique connections to the world, magical or not. Finding ways to tap into this magic opens a well of inspiration, but how do we do this? What are some ways to finding this well of magic? There are many concepts, methods, or ideas we can start with to find our personal creative magic.
Finding Our Creative Magic
Meditation and trance practice can be a helpful starting point for creative magic. Spending time sitting in our thoughts, working through mental blocks, and cleansing our spiritual energy gives us more space to receive information from our magical sources. Depending on your spiritual focuses, deity work may also provide creative support for you. Reaching out to Apollo when playing with new musical ideas or Aphrodite to create a beautiful piece of art can both be ways of finding inspiration.
Reaching out to community and co-creating is also a tremendous way of finding inspiration. Working with members of your local spiritual community can lead to new concepts or ideas you may not find on your own. Not only can shared knowledge help with creativity or finding inspiration, but you may find it easier to tap into your personal magic when working with others.
Music and Meditation
Meditation and trance are both important parts of my magic practice. I’ve made great strides in personal growth, both in my spirituality and in my creativity, through spending time in meditating or using trance to enter my personal spiritual realm. It took me a few months to see progress in my meditations because I was working hard on my own. I received feedback from my mentor, but otherwise I was spending time working through these concepts by myself. Music is also important to my life and practice. It helps me process emotions, work through specific astrological transits, and overall improves my life. Improvisation with music helps me enter flow states and push through unique challenges I may be experiencing. Combining music improvisation and meditation is a concept I am working on with Befriending Fate.
I’m currently offering composition commissions and improvisations for people who are interested in learning more about themselves. I guide you through a meditation or trance while playing piano alongside your experience. All the music played will be improvised and unique to the person receiving the meditation. We can use specific astrology transits, magical themes, or focus on navigating meditation and seeing where it goes from there. Allow me to open the doors to your magical realm and help you make friends with your fate. Become one with the stars and see where life takes you.
